Pete has 4 nights of medical school left. Four nights working in the ER, match day in March, graduation in May, and he will be a doctor. A doctor! This is so surreal to me. This is something we (yes, we. I'm happy to tell you why spouses earn their MD too) have been working toward for so long, it's hard to imagine the next phase. Sure residents seem like pseudo-doctors, and there might be truth in that, but he will be treating patients. He will be responsible for people, their health and wellness, and he will even be helping train future doctors. What a difference a year makes!
All this to say that I am so proud of Pete. He is incredibly hard working, but understands the balance he needs to also be an awesome husband and a great father. With the conclusion of our 4 years of medical school in sight, I am bittersweet. We have made some of our greatest friends, and many of them will be moving on, states away. Some of them we will stay in touch with, but we all know that those relationships are difficult to maintain over so much space and time.
I know this much, we will cherish all of those friendships and this great time in our lives. It has been a time where we have grown and loved so much. I hope we will be able to make the most of the remaining months of our time in medical school.
Awesome. Congrats to both of you.
